Twenty-five year old Sara Williams, currently the UK’s most successful female rally driver, announces today that she will make her international debut on the Wales Rally GB on 13 November.
Sara is the only British female driver in this international event.
The event, the final round of the 2014 FIA World Rally Championship, builds on the success of the 2103 event following its relocation to North Wales. Tens of thousands of spectators enjoyed 3 days of spectacular competition. For 2014, spectator facilities and hospitality opportunities have been substantially upgraded.
Sara, outright winner of the 2013 Red Kite and Swansea Bay Rallies and second overall with first in class in this year’s Red Dragon Rally, said today, “This is the chance I have been waiting for. I’ve acquitted myself well on the Wales Rally GB national event each year from 2010 to 2012, so competing in the international event this year is a major step for me and my regular codriver Patrick Walsh. We’re really looking forward to the event.”
Having driven competitively since she was seventeen, Sara has won numerous awards including the Louise Aitkin-Walker Trophy in 2011 and the John Eason Award for drivers under the age of twenty-five in 2010. Also in 2010 she won the
‘Driver of the Year Award’ by the Brecon Motor Club and the ‘Competitor of the Year Award’ by the Sutton and Cheam Motor Club.
Competing in the WRC section of the Welsh Rally GB is the biggest event in Sara’s career to date, tackling 3 days of highly competitive international rallying. A challenging 192 stage miles of intense concentration and team work, competing on equal terms with the world’s top rally drivers in the last round of the 2014 FIA World Rally Championship.
Sara competes in a Group N Subaru Impreza N12 , lives in Brecon and is part of the family team at Brecon Motors, the local MG dealer.
